Penguins Can Vote Too?

Tuesday, November 4th, 2014. This day is not like any other. Today millions of people across the country are casting their vote in the Midterm Elections. They are voting to have their voice heard, to make a difference in their community, in their state, and in this country. Here at Perkins, things are not very different. Our 3rd-5th grade Penguins also cast their votes to decide who will represent Perkins in this year’s Student Council Elections.

Student Council 1

While no official polls were conducted, rumors around the hallway claim that there will be a tight race for every seat on the Council. Three wonderful candidates for each position gave fantastic speeches to the student body: Arianna Jackson, Olivia Liechti, and Jordan Weigel for Secretary; Lucy Auge, Joel Bayens, and Logan Rowland for Treasurer; Lilian Atchison, Cecilia Hatfield, and Bhan Teny for Vice President; Colin Murphy, Leah Stringer, and Gabi Evans-Wilkins for President. Candidates brought up ideas like more exciting spirit days, a new playground, a school-wide anti-bullying campaign, and so much more. I have no doubt that no matter who gets elected, Perkins is in for a fun-filled, event-packed year!

I’d like to wish each candidate good luck, and am excited for the rest of this school year!
