Rock Lives On!

On Thursday, February 4, 2016 our third and fifth grade students performed on stage at Roosevelt High School. This was a great experience for our Perkins students. It was fun to see our students having gyrating and singing these historical songs as well as learning at the same time. Congratulations to Mrs. Dietz and all of our performers. Mrs. Dietz took our students through the history of Rock and Roll.  She wrote, “Since rock music was developed to bring social issues to the forefront, each grade (3-5) is writing a song about the issue that they feel is important to them (i.e. stopping bullying, helping the homeless, donating food/clothing, etc.).” Our school theme includes the concept that “Together We Will Change The World.”  Our students took this idea serious by writing their own lyrics on how they think the world can be changed. I do hope you had time to read some of them. What a great way to use music as a vehicle to express ones self, support personal feelings, and to share ideas.
