We Are Iowans

On Friday, November 22, Perkins fifth and fourth graders got a taste of what it is like to be prideful of your home. Each grade spent half of the day at the Iowa Hall of Pride learning about all the wonderful things that Iowa has to offer.

They were able to experience what it is like to be a radio broadcaster during an important game, the importance of exercise and staying active, and play a virtual game of basketball, all in the same building.

The students also got to read about Iowa’s role in the agricultural trade and how corn and soybeans can be made into various different household items.

Along with these interactive activities, which were in abundance, the students discovered famous athletes, musicians, and activists who they never knew existed before visiting the Hall of Pride.

Despite all of these fun activities for the students to partake in, they were more in awe of the influential names and organizations listed that have helped Iowa become the great state it is today. Students left after eating their lunch more prideful of their home state than before.
