Musical Theatre

Today the 2nd and 3rd grade students put on a musical theatre for the ages. Not only were they singing various songs, but also tying them together to create a fluid and comprehensive story. Saira Martinez-Robles expressed her delight with the performance. “It was very fun because I got to sing,” she recalls. “I also was able to dance to my favorite song: The Funky Chicken.”

Even though the event was held in the morning (10:30am, to be exact) the gymnasium was full of parents, staff, and fellow students watching their peers put on a musical extravaganza. The show was filled with group choruses, stage props, and sprinkled with solo performances. Kiley Owens shared her excitement about performing a solo. “The concert felt good to be a part of,” she remembered. “I was able to sing my own part in two songs.”

Will Bright also described how exciting the concert was, but he was just happy about the song selection. “It [the concert] was really great,” said Will unable to hold back a smile. “I really liked the last song about pizza, because pizza is so tasty.”

The concert was held in two parts, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, but both performances had a great turnout. Next up are the combo choirs of the 5th graders and kindergarteners, then the 1st and 4th graders will also put on a performance later on in the school year. A big thank you goes out to all the parents who came and supported their children, along with the staff who helped with preparing and cleaning up.
