National Youth Championship

Perkins student competes in Cross Country National Youth Championship, in Nashville, Tennessee. Nineteen teams of 20 girls competed for the top prize. Adriana’s team won the national runner-up award. In the individual division, Adrianna crossed the finish line in  7th place out of 196 runners nationally.   Adrianna described the course as difficult because of the rugged terrain and steep hills. She delineated her experience as “hard; I felt tired. But I felt I had to keep on going because of all the people who was there cheering for me.” Adrianna I asked, “How do you prepare for a major competition like this?” She responded, “Practicing has made me better. I work very hard to be a winner.” “Has anyone given you inspiration to be a runner,” I inquired? “Lolo Jones has inspired me to start running; my biggest supporters are my family-mom, dad and brother,” she replied. “What advice would you give other kids who would like to run,” I asked? She thought for a moment and responded, “Train hard and do good in school; it’s easier to win.”
