Perfect Attendance

One hundred and thirty students were honored at Perkins on Friday, December 2015. These students have attended school everyday since August 26, 2015. Since the first day of school, 95.7 % of our Perkins students attend classes. Research analysis of national testing data demonstrates that students who miss more school than their peers consistently score lower on standardized tests, a result that holds true at every age, in every demographic group, and in every state and city tested. The analysis is based on the results of the 2013 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).” At Perkins we do everything we can to provide a healthy environment.  Research continues to support the premise, “Disparities in school attendance rates  ‘starting as early as preschool and kindergarten’ are contributing to achievement gaps and high school dropout rates across the country. We believe that there is a “connection between health and attendance” and the job we have moving forward to develop a plan to minimize absenteeism. There will be times when children and staff become ill and need to stay home. We have no control of the virus and where it might show itself. However, we can come together in search for ways to prepare and maintain a healthy learning environment in and at home.
