The Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Des Moines is a non-profit charitable organization providing a unique style of personal assistance with food, clothing, educational and job training and other services to people facing economic, emotional or spiritual crises.

As a private, non-profit charity, the Society relies almost exclusively on private individuals, businesses and organizations locally for support.

Everything St. Vincent de Paul does is motivated by a sense of compassion for those struggling with poverty, loneliness, illness, family problems and many other difficulties. Our Catholic faith inspires us to action, sustains our commitment, and challenges us to become more like Christ. For Vincentians, every encounter with our fellow-man is an opportunity to share a spark of the divine fire as we walk with them in their daily challenges.

Go to www.svdpdsm.org to see supports for work readiness, financial literacy, career coaching, relationships, and prisoner re-entry programming.

DMACC helps thousands of working adults, so you’ll see people of all ages in our classrooms. While enrollment is large, our class sizes are small, averaging fewer than 18 students to one professor. You can now file DACA renewal forms online!
If you were previously granted DACA, you now have the option to file your renewal Form I-821D, Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization online. You also must include the Form I-765 Worksheet.

To file online, you must first create a myUSCIS account. The account is free and allows you to track your case, respond to requests for evidence, and communicate with USCIS online. For these reasons, the Office of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman (CIS Ombudsman) encourages you to file immigration benefit requests online.

If you are requesting DACA for the first time, you cannot file online at this time. While USCIS is accepting initial DACA requests, a July 16, 2021 court order prohibits USCIS from approving them at this time. Therefore, you may submit an initial request by mail, but all first-time DACA requests are on hold.

Booster shots available for everyone
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has authorized boosters of the Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines for all adults age 18 and over. Prior to this authorization, eligibility had been limited to individuals age 65 and older and those who lived or worked in high risk environments. Those who received a single shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are already eligible for a booster two months after their initial dose.

One month into flu season, the Iowa Department of Public Health urges Iowans to get their flu vaccines as soon as possible. Flu activity in the state is still low, but cases have increased in the last week. Both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization and death from these viruses. By getting vaccinated for both influenza and COVID-19, we can prevent avoidable hospitalizations and help preserve health care resources for other needs, including illnesses, injuries and emergencies. Iowans with questions about vaccines for themselves or loved ones consult with their health care provider.

Getting vaccinated now will provide more protection in advance of winter holiday gatherings. Find vaccine providers and resources at vaccinate.iowa.gov and vaccines.gov

Even if you have no interest in dating, this study helps lay a healthy foundation should you desire to in the future and can serve as an amazing resource as you help your children navigate dating as they grow. Transportation

Students can find out if their school assigned them to DART for transportation by speaking with the administrators at their school. Please note that students need to scan their physical ID and cannot scan an image of their ID on their phone or other device. Students who have lost or misplaced their ID should speak to administrators at their school to get a replacement ID.

Students assigned to DART for school transportation:
DMPS officials assign which students ride DART for their school transportation. These students can ride their assigned DART route free to and from school by scanning their student ID on the farebox when they board a DART bus. Copies of DART’s school tripper routes are available here.

Some DMPS students have special access to DART bus transportation that is specified by color on the QR code of their student IDs.

  • Green: Students with green on their ID under the DART QR code have all access to DART bus transportation at any time.
  • Yellow: Students with yellow on their ID under the DART QR code are not assigned to DART for school transportation. However, these students can still ride any DART route to/from school by paying half fare when boarding the bus. They can also ride free after 4:30 PM on weekdays and on the weekends and any time that school is not in session- including summers!
  • Red: Students have access to DART bus transportation before 4:30 PM on weekdays.

All students can ride free after 4:30 PM on weekdays and on the weekends and any time that school is not in session- including summers!

We define hopelessness as: “Being unable to function or maintain a desired quality of life due to lack of knowledge, resources, mental health and/or access to solutions.”

Our primary focus is on addressing community safety concerns and disparities as they relate to economics, health, incarceration and education among “at-risk” and “high-risk” youth ages K-12 in the greater Des Moines area.

“Listen with the intent to understand!” Hip-Hope Inc. assesses the needs of the community through the perspective of the youth. We promote hope for our future by giving youth a voice through arts and culture. Their insight allows us to accurately address their needs.
