The Rides of March

This March has provided plenty of bus rides for our Penguins here at Perkins. On March 2nd, our 3rd-5th grade ESL (English as a Second Language) students made a trip down to the Des Moines Community Playhouse. They got to see the hour and a half production of The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood. The play featured adventure, action, comedy, defeat, heroism, and much more!

On March 6th, the Perkins Singers got to go to the Civic Center for a unique musical performance. They got to see Scrap Arts perform live using the instruments they created. The Canadian trio collects used and discarded metal from in and around their community to create musical instruments. They produced a wide range of sounds and kept the audience active!

March 10th, our 4th graders went back to the Civic Center for another exciting performance! They got to see the Mayhem Poets perform. Three slam poets showcased their talent on the big stage for our students to experience. Our Penguins were able to hear the English language manipulated and used in many different ways to tell stories unique to the poets.

Overall, it was a very exciting month here at Perkins. We would like to thank the PTA, our wonderful staff, and parents for making all of these trips possible. We would also like to thank our students for behaving in such a manner that allows for field trips like these to take place. Enjoy your Spring Break!
