I have been working for DMPS as a Bilingual Community Worker since 2007. I was born in Costa Rica and moved to Iowa in 1994 following my mom’s transfer to Pioneer Hi-Bred in Johnston Iowa. My primary language is Spanish but I am also fluent in English. I love to travel and learn as much as I can from all of the different countries our students are from. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cooking, gardening and taking our dogs for walks.
Bilingual Family Liaison
My adventure with Des Moines Public Schools began in 2001 as a Special Education Associate at Hanawalt Elementary. I have also worked as an associate with STEP and Edmunds Elementary. I enjoy being a part of the great Perkins Elementary community as a Special Education Associate helping the students learn and thrive. My time away from Perkins Elementary is spent catching up on my reading for my latest book club selection, movies, and having good times with my family and friends.
Special Education Associate
I began my journey at Perkins Elementary in 2010 as a Special Ed associate. I was fortunate to move into the Library Associate position in 2011. I love to read and enjoy being able to share my love for books with the students.
I am married and have 2 sons. I also have 2 dogs and a cat. Our house seems to be in constant motion but I wouldn’t have it any other way! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family. We love to go camping, travel, watch movies and laugh. There is lots of laughter in our house!
