Dorothy Davenport
My adventure with Des Moines Public Schools began in 2001 as a Special Education Associate at Hanawalt Elementary. I have also worked as an associate with STEP and Edmunds Elementary. I enjoy being a part of the great Perkins Elementary community as a Special Education Associate helping the students learn and thrive. My time away from Perkins Elementary is spent catching up on my reading for my latest book club selection, movies, and having good times with my family and friends.
Special Education Associate
I have been a speech language pathologist (SLP) in the Des Moines School District since the 2018-2019 school year, and have been a school-based SLP since 2012. My passion for helping all students increase their communication skills, advocating for those who need communication support, and working with amazing teachers and staff in the buildings I serve has kept me continually wanting to learn and grow. It has been a joy to join the Perkins family! Outside of school I enjoy being with my family, exploring outdoors or going for long walks, and reading.
I have been teaching with Des Moines Public Schools as a special education teacher since graduating from Iowa State University in the spring of 2001. I am currently working with 4th and 5th grade students at Perkins Academy and LOVE IT! In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cheering for the Iowa State Cyclones – GO CLONES! , playing outside, and shopping!
