Class Description

5th Grade

Biography

This is my seventh year teaching for Des Moines Public Schools.  Prior to coming to the Des Moines School District, I taught fifth grade in Johnston, Iowa and Angleton, Texas.  This year is my nineteenth year of teaching.  When I’m not at school my three children, Kali (14), Ethan (12), and Emerson (2), my fiancé, Bill, and I enjoy spending time swimming, biking and walking. Three- fifth of our family members are black belts at Two Rivers Martial Arts and I instruct classes one evening a week!  When we are not out and about we enjoy hanging out at home in the company of our four-legged family members; our loud and affectionate cat, Snack (aka Hawkeye) and two yellow lab/retriever mixes, Lily and Jack.

Biography

Welcome to fifth grade. My name is Jennifer Trout and I think fifth graders are fabulous! I am a proud Panther from the University of Northern Iowa. I have a degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. In this classroom students are allowed time to explore their own theories about learning. “We choose how we learn.”  We encourage students to talk about strategies they find personally effective. Education should be useful so, I strive to have students actively engaged in real-world applications of the things they are learning.
