Safety Patrol
The school day begins with Captain Colin Murphy raising the American Flag while cones are being placed along the bus pick-up and drop-off zone. Patrol personnel proceed on to their stations: 43rd and College and 44th and College. As the busses make their approach, drivers honk to signal they are close to the drop off zone. Safety patrol persons fall into action immediately removing cones at the entrance and exit. Mr. Southmayd is present guiding the assiduous work his students do to maintain a safe environment. Other Safety Patrol personnel are located throughout the school to monitor traffic. Suddenly, 468 students begin to arrive from all directions. No worries, Safety Patrol is there to ensure a safe transition from parent or bus to school. Hooray! Another safe arrival for our students. Mrs. Manning explained, “Students at Perkins have good character, are responsible, and have good problem solving skills.” A big round of applause for those students who have accepted the Safety Patrol role to “protect students from hazards of crossing roads and highways on their way to and from school.” However, our Perkins Safety Patrol members are more than traffic monitors; they are also leaders who serve to promote safety throughout Perkins. Perkins Safety Patrol is on the job, helping keep students safe in every area of our school.
